Fire moblogged

Again, a moblogger provides a movieclip to a newsite. This time the newspaper Sydsvenskan" in southern sweden recieved footage from a mobile user of a fire in central Malmö, Sweden.

The movieclip is in 3gp and can be seen here.

Some mobloggers at mobilblogg.nu also saw the fire. This guy took the best movlog

What I find sad, is that it always is accidents that make headlines. This fire was serious, and people got hurt, i'd like to see some positive news where mobloggers are there before the reporters.

Just a link and some thoughts

Joi Ito sounds a bit despirited and asks if more moblogging will help.

Anyways, he's right. Moblogging has been around since 2003 and not much has happened... or has it?

Not regarding new development. More of the same has happened. More mobloggers, more mobilecameras, more users, more moblog publishers. But nothing NEW.

When looking at our users at mobilblogg.net they are clearly not early adopters. They are common people (whatever that is) with ordinary jobs (whatever that is). Not the alpha geeks. They left moblogging in 2003. And did something else. Like tagging and AJAX.

The next logical step is consuming blogs via the phone. But connection speed will keep that development on hold for a while. At least for our users. (we'll see what can happen with 3G and Wifi phones, but we are not there just yet).

But then again- since moblogging is coming to the masses- some of the bigger powers of the web and mobileindustry (Google, Nokia, 3, msn) are starting to pay serious attention to moblogging.

News from mobilblogg.net

Well, after some sucess now with an american moblogger and a moblogger blogging from New Zeeland i'ts time for some news, guessing, statusreport and promises.

What we know

We know that we support all carriers in Scandinavia (that is Sweden Denmark, Norway and Finland)

We know we support moblogging via MMS with Vodafone in Ireland and Egypt

We know we support moblogging via MMS with Verizon in USA.

We know we support carriers in New Zeeland and Holland (carrier not specified by moblogger - yet)

What we guess

We guess that the step to support all carriers is not that big. And we guess we support your carrier even if you can´t find it in the list above.

What we promise

We promise to make your MMS moblogging work - regardless of country and carrier. Create a moblog - for free- and try. If it doesnt work, send a mail to info@mobilblogg.net and describe the problem, and we'll be happy to fix it.

Known problems
Some carriers- operators- like for instance american Verizon, puts an annoying signature in their MMS'es. When moblogged to mobilblogg.net these signatures appears as captions or headlines to your picture.

We can not do much about this. The users we have with this problem often uses MMS to get their snapshot moblogged, and later log in and edit this text.

Moblogging in 2006

"Something that will start to be hyped will be moblogging, pushed partly by Nokia, and this will provide interesting opportunities for the press as they will always have fresh pictures from any crime scene."

Hm.. I sort of agree to this. Not the Nokia part, but the rest. If Nokia is exchanged to "Mobile manufacturers" I agree more (SonyEricson can't remain sleeping in class for the whole of 2006). Well, he said "pushed PARTLY by Nokia", so ok. Maybe I agree completely.

But also, I think a lot of moblog publishers, like us at mobilblogg.net, will do our part in hyping moblogging.

My prediction is also, that the carriers will remain invisible. (although- they make most of the money from moblogging)

Moblogging aussies

According to an article in Sydney Morning Herald
Australia still lags well behind regions such as North America and Europe in the adoption of broadband with pricing and regional access commonly cited as the biggest barriers.

And, accordingly, they are also behind regarding moblogging. Well, that is gonna change real soon, when Telstra will:

offer a free blogging platform for its users from next year, including the facility to post video or photos direct to the blog from a mobile phone

What can I say? Welcome to a marvelous world of moblogging dear aussies, if you can't wait, try mobilblogg.net - we are as excited as you are to see if your MMS'ses will be posted :-)

Rock'n Moblog

The band Maximo Park will be moblogging during their UK tour - and guess what? If you are one of their fans you are welcome to moblog from their concerts (or from other related events).

This is a good example of how Moblogging can be used for PR purposes, in a fun and interactive way. The fans will know more about the band, and vice versa.

Moblogging 2.0 - and more

For some reason I haven't linked to this mobilejones article before

About time I link to it, it's very good, discussing what moblogging is, can become and how the use of words shape our understanding of this.

Read more at mobilejones about moblogging2.0 -where the PC disappears and the phone is not just a transmitter of moblog media, but also receiver.

As you know, mobilblogg.net is mobloggining 1.0 and will stay like that for some time yet, at least until 3G is widely used.

Attacking Elephant moblogged

Wow, I always admire people who can stay cool and pic up their mobiles and snap photos of the action.

For some reason I always miss by a few sec. My regards to the moblogger of this attacking elephant

A good example of how moblogging captures the moment, you always have your phone with you, like your wallet and your keys.
