TextAmerica users switching to MoblogUK?

As said before, Textamerica will now charge 99 dollars a year. And they will delete all users who does not.

Alfie, at moblogUK welcomes all users who want a free moblog service and there is an application (download here) made buy a moblogUK user that will help mobloggers to move their pictures from textamerica to mologUK.

Alfie also says: We do want to get the word out to Textamerica users but we don’t want this to be a moblogUK vs Textamerica thing, because frankly, it isn’t - but it’s really cool that someone has taken the time to write an import application for people who don’t want to suddenly see their accounts, many of whom will have had them for years, deleted.

This step made by TA really rocks the boat for all moblog community nerds (thats me).

Well then? Are you waiting for me to promote mobilblogg.net? I won't, because, as the community evolves, it is getting more and more recognized that this moblog is for Scandinavians. And we already have some TA dropouts, they came for the language to be together with their countrymen, for example to discuss Swedish soccer (instead of American football).

Of course some Americans, Irishmen, Poles, some Egyptian, and Indians are blogging at mobilblogg. But they don't really participate in the community.

So maybe Scandinavian TA mobloggers will move over to us? We will see. The majority though, who are americans, will go to moblogUK where english is the language. Or maybe stay and pay at TA?

We will see. (Of course, former TA bloggers are most welcome to mobilblogg.net!)

nice post mate; you are right that there is a national flavour to moblogging I think, and that is reflected in where people choose to moblog. This thing from TA is just so disturbing, and the inside story as to why even more so - as you say, we'll see :)

Yes, it is disturbing. What TA is doing might cast a shadow over other moblog outfits.

The deletion of moblogs (or blogs, or photoalbums on for example flikr) might be considered as an unthinkable action.
But once it's done, it's sort of accepted that it can be done. And mobloggers might bear in mind that anyone moblog outfit might do so.

So yeah I sent an email to text america saying I'd like to upgrade for the 99 dollars, and my panel was activated temporarily (they gave me 48 hours to comply) so I could upgrade. Well, instead of upgrading I decided to download my crap and give Text America a big middle finger. Here is my reply to their request for 99 dollars.

Nicole,
I wanted to let you that since Text America so graciously activated my account so I could get to my control panel, I decided to just go ahead and download my pictures from the control panel instead of upgrading - you can go ahead and delete my pictures if you'd like - I've got copies now. I wanted to also give Text America my 2 cents about what they've done. Basically - you've let people use your free service for years. Then you've decided you can't support users as a free service anymore. That's understandable. What is ludicrous though is that you posted a message to everyone's control panel. I RARELY login to my control panel. As such - I had no idea I was going to lose my blog. You have everyone's email address on file - it's a wonder why you didn't email people. Oh wait, I know why - because you wanted to surprise 90% of your user base, then hold their pictures and videos hostage for a ransom of 99$. Then, when users ask to be upgraded to they can back their pictures up - you give a 48 hour deadline. Does this not sound like a kidnapping for ransom to you? Give us 99$ in 48 hours or you'll lose your memories. I think your policies are crap and the way you go about things will never allow you to succeed as a company. You will fail miserably and I can't wait to see it happen. I can only hope for a class-action law suit by your former members. Kind regards,
Shane Kaszyca
